In December, we will visit a very special place in the heart of Berlin: St. Hedwig’s Cathedral. It looks very different from many other churches and has an exciting history that we will explore together. Especially before Christmas, the cathedral has a unique atmosphere that we want to experience with the KulturKids. Every Saturday, we will be there at 12:00 PM to listen to the grand organ – a sound that makes your whole body vibrate. In the crypt, we will find a “Neapolitan Nativity Scene” and an art installation. Afterwards, many fun activities await us around the cathedral, the Christmas market, and the Humboldt Forum, allowing us to learn and play with our minds, bodies, and hearts.

For KidsKultur, the cathedral is an exciting space for learning and discovery, not because of its religious function, but because of its extraordinary architecture, clear design, and remarkable acoustics. Its location in Berlin’s cultural center – right next to the Christmas market and just a few steps from the Humboldt Forum – allows us to connect architecture, culture, and everyday experiences. This makes the visit a holistic experience in the spirit of the Mind, Body & Soul concept.

Mind – Thinking, Understanding, Observing
- The KulturKids explore the architecture of the cathedral: discovering shapes, spatial layout, and the special features of the crypt.
- Understanding music: KulturKids observe how organ sounds are produced and how they influence the space.
- Connecting culture: discovering exhibitions in the crypt and questioning the stories behind them.
Body – Moving, Sensing, Trying Out
- Experiencing the space physically: the KulturKids walk through the cathedral, feel the acoustics, and grasp its dimensions.
- Musical body awareness: KulturKids listen to the vibrations and resonances of the organ and perceive them within their own bodies.
- Movement and play: enjoying the Christmas market and the playground—running, climbing, and being creatively active.
Soul – Emotions, Self-Confidence, Inner Balance
- Finding wonder and calm: the KulturKids let the special atmosphere of the cathedral wash over them.
- Experiencing music: the KulturKids learn to express and process the emotions they feel through the organ sounds.
- Community and creativity: expressing and sharing their impressions through drawings or small games at the Christmas market.
On the three dates, at 11:00 AM each Saturday, we will explore the cathedral choir with the KulturKids, discover the architecture, speak with staff, and then visit the Christmas market and the large children’s area at the Humboldt Forum. There, children can draw, play, run, and move before we wrap up the day together.
