Kidskultur in Hamburg

Daytrip to Hamburg

Life by the Water

In June 2026, KidsKultur will once again organize a special day trip to Hamburg for children aged 6 to 8. Together, we want to explore the city by the water and spend a day full of adventure, creativity, and community. Hamburg offers endless opportunities for children to discover and wonder: the River Elbe, the Alster, large ships, ferries, historic places, and exciting stories about life by the water. The focus of our trip will be the Port of Hamburg — a place full of movement, sounds, and encounters.
Even the journey itself will become part of the adventure. Traveling together by ICE train, we will make ourselves comfortable with our “D’amico blanket,” books, games, and sketchbooks. Once we arrive in Hamburg, we will explore the Alster together, walk through the city center, and experience the city from a child’s perspective. In the “Rückblicke” section of this website, you can find impressions of what our last Hamburg trip in April 2023 looked like.

We will visit the harbor, take breaks overlooking the Elbe and the Elbphilharmonie, draw, play, and enjoy spending time together. It is especially important to us that the children help make decisions during the trip. If the group would rather take a ferry ride instead of visiting a museum, we decide together. One of the highlights of the day will be the long ferry ride on the Elbe — two hours on the water filled with playing, laughing, discovering, and relaxing. During the ride, we will also read small letters from the parents in which they tell their children why they love them and what makes them proud. Especially on a child’s first trip without parents, this moment creates a strong feeling of closeness and security.

Traveling without parents helps children develop independence and self-confidence. Discovering new places together with other children means taking responsibility, making decisions together, and gaining new experiences. The children learn how to navigate unfamiliar situations, strengthen friendships, and grow together as a group. Small journeys like this help children become braver, more independent, and more confident. At the same time, they create memories that stay for a long time: sharing meals together, drawing in special places, playing by the water, and of course enjoying the famous crispy fish and chips on Große Elbstraße.
