Many adults know Leyla Piedayesh as the founder of Lala Berlin and as an influential personality in the fashion world – but her enthusiasm for children and culinary culture is just as great. Together with Leyla as a special guest, KidsKultur invited children in April to two very special cooking events. In unique kitchens at two secret locations, the KulturKids stepped into the world of cooking. They received exciting behind-the-scenes insights into a restaurant that had not yet opened, worked with fresh ingredients, and went on a cultural journey to Persia. The KulturKids explored Persian cuisine in a playful way by discovering where Persia – present-day Iran – is located and what role food plays in everyday life and celebrations.
They learned about typical ingredients and spices such as saffron, herbs, and fruits, and explored why many dishes combine sweet and savory flavors. While cooking, they discovered how traditional meals were prepared, why time and care were important, and how meaningful cooking together was for families. At the same time, they sharpened their senses by consciously noticing smells, colors, and textures – from the aroma of spices to the texture of rice or dough. They also experienced the importance of hospitality and sharing meals together.
The KulturKids were creative as well: they developed their own dish ideas, combined ingredients, and invented names for their creations. In this way, cultural learning, sensory experiences, and creative thinking came together in a playful atmosphere. But of course, there was also plenty of movement, running around, and lots of fun. They spent energetic time on the large playground at Stuttgarter Platz. After registration, parents were informed of all further details.
Mind, Body & Soul
Mind – creative thinking, planning, and independently developing recipes
Soul – cultural understanding, shared experiences, and joy through food
Body – practical skills, movement, and lots of fun on the playground In addition, small children’s interviews and portraits were created around the theme of food.
